COVID-19 UPDATE 24 April

Published Fri 24 Apr 2020

I wanted to give you all an update on a few things, and of course, let you know again that you can always get in touch with me to discuss any issue.

These are very difficult times, and DA wishes you all the very best of health and happiness as we get through it all.

We will roll out some new social media content from next week and we hope you like that – please don’t be afraid to let us know what you want to see and we will do our best to do that as well. We have made progress with membership support offerings and will hopefully be able to outline that to you toward the end of next week. Apologies for the delay.

From an events perspective, I am pleased to let you know that, in conjunction with the wonderful State Associations, we have settled on dates for next year’s Age Championships. They will be held in Brisbane between 12 and 17 April 2021. Training days on 12 and 13 and Competition days on 14 through 17 April. The closing function will be on the evening of the 17th and, assuming restrictions permit, we would all love to see as many of you there as possible.

As you all know, the Olympics being postponed to 2021 has given our Elite Athletes some additional time to prepare and we are waiting on some additional information from FINA as to the status of international events such as our own Grand Prix, the World Juniors and indeed the World Cup, which we now expect in early 2021. We are giving regular briefings to all high performance athletes and coaches about these developments, as best as we can.

Finally, and on a related topic, I would like to acknowledge that there has been some discussions in various media channels about restrictions easing. The latest information we have regarding sport is that the next few weeks will be key in the chances of pools re-opening. We are hopeful that we will see some access for elite athletes in the coming weeks and then after that, for more club and community access (albeit all access will be with some significant restrictions). We are keeping abreast of developments and are doing what we can.

Thank you again to you all. A trying time but one that I believe the Diving Community is handling better than most and that is a testament to all of you.

Importantly, can I also acknowledge that tomorrow is Anzac Day, and whilst we will not be able to commemorate in the usual way, I would encourage you to remember them, in your own way. Lest we forget.

Best wishes,

David Bell
