Commonwealth Games medallists Maddison Keeney and Domonic Bedggood have taken the first steps toward possible Olympic nomination with strong performances on day two of the Rio qualification event in Melbourne. Keeney finished first in both the preliminary and semi-final rounds of the women’s springboard competition, while Bedggood was the standout performer in the men’s platform.

Kevin Chavez, who was cleared to dive for Australia just ten days ago, sits at the top of the springboard leaderboard after the first day of competition at the Australian Olympic selection trials in Melbourne. Chavez, who was born in Mexico, received the all-clear from diving’s world governing body, FINA, to try and qualify for Rio.

When you tell most Australian sport fans that Melissa Wu is still just 24-years-old, most of them don’t believe you. It’s not because she doesn’t look 24 (if anything she looks younger); it’s more because Melissa Wu seems to have been around for ever.

The Australian Junior Team had a fantastic first day of competition over night at the Amsterdam Diving Cup. From 5 completed events, Australian won 5 gold medals!!

FUTURE COMMONWEALTH GAMES DIVERS HEAD TO EUROPE The future of Australian diving will be on display over the coming fortnight, with 13 of the country’s most promising junior divers competing in major European events. The junior team will compete in the Amsterdam Diving Cup in the Netherlands from April 14-17, and then travel to Dresden to compete in the International Youth Diving meet from April 21 until the 24th.

Diving Australia is a search for athletes who have the potential to become world class divers. We are looking for young people between the ages of 8 – 15 years who have the ability to be fast tracked for the WA National Elite Pathway Program (NEPP) by testing for the skills that show they are suitable for the sport.

WU PICKS UP ANOTHER WORLD CLASS DIVING BRONZE Australian diver Melissa Wu has added another pre-Olympic bronze medal to her collection with a strong showing at a World Series event in Dubai overnight. Once again it was a pair of Chinese divers who denied Wu a top-two placing, echoing results from this year’s World Cup and Beijing World Series events. 23-year-old Wu finished less than 15 points behind Chinese gold medallist, Huixia Liu, with fellow Chinese diver Yajie Si picking up the silver. Wu will be aiming for a third Olympic games this year, and has put her name forward as a genuine medal prospect after consistent top-three performances in Olympic-class fields this year. The Australian Olympic selection trials will be contested in Melbourne in May.

BRILLIANT WU TAKES BRONZE AT DIVING WORLD CUP Australia’s Melissa Wu has stamped herself as a genuine medal contender at this year’s Rio Olympics, after winning bronze in the platform final at the diving World Cup in Rio this morning.

NO OLYMPIC JOY FOR AUSTRALIA ON OPENING DAY OF DIVING WORLD CUP Australia has fallen just short in its attempt to qualify two synchronised diving teams for this year’s Olympics on the opening day of the World Cup in Rio.

The Australian diving team will be looking to qualify the final positions for the 2016 Olympics when it contests the Diving World Cup in Rio this weekend. Coach Chava Sobrino is confident the team has the experience to qualify the synchronised diving spots that have so far eluded the Australians.

Olympic silver medalist Brittany Broben and World Junior gold medalist, Georgia Sheehan, have been named in a five-strong Australian diving team to compete at the German Diving Championships and the German Diving Grand Prix later this month.

Diving Australia has announced the team to travel to the Diving World Cup to be held in Rio in late February 2016. The World Cup doubles as the Olympic test event and the last opportunity to qualify Rio quota spots.

CONNOR ADDS NEXT PIECE IN OLYMPIC DIVING PUZZLE James Connor has added the final individual quota spot for the Australian diving team for next year’s Rio Olympics with victory in the men’s platform final at the Oceania Championships in Melbourne.
