DA HP Director Steve Foley to step down

Published Fri 02 May 2025

Diving Australia High Performance Director, Steve Foley, has decided he will step down from his role once his current contract comes to an end in June this year, following the conclusion of the Open National Championships/World Trials in Sydney.

Steve has had an illustrious career in diving globally with Paris 2024 marking the 13th time he has been involved in an Olympic Games. He competed for Australia at three consecutive Olympics from 1976 to 1984, where he became the first Australian male diver to final in both the springboard and platform events before moving into coaching and high-performance roles in Australia, Britain and the USA from 1988 onwards.

Under Steve’s leadership, the British Diving Team secured their first Olympic medal in 44 years, with a silver in the Men’s Synchronised Diving in 2004, while London 2012 was the USA’s best Olympics since 1988, claiming four medals across the Diving program.

Diving Australia CEO Alex Newton: “Diving Australia is deeply grateful for all that Steve has done for diving, both in Australia and internationally, and he is leaving a legacy of success that will be hard to follow.”

“He is and always will be a huge part of the Diving Australia family and story, and part of the rich history of our sport.

We will miss Steve and his jokes about the place and hope he won’t be a stranger. Whilst he doesn’t want a fanfare, we will celebrate him and all he has achieved at our Awards Night at the end of November in Brisbane,” she said.
