A new National Event for young divers

2026 marks the launch of the inaugural Australian National Skills Championships. This event has a new exciting format, designed to strengthen the foundational technical and physical skills of divers aged 13 and under. Formerly known as the National Skills Final, the re-designed Championships place a greater emphasis on participation, progression, and long-term development across multiple pathways in this exciting sport.

Building strong diving foundations for all

The event is designed to support the development of fundamental diving skills both in and out of the pool, helping young athletes build a strong technical base that will assist their progression. The Championships assess a broad range of core skills that underpin long-term success in the sport, with age-appropriate and progression-based expectations that encourage divers to return each year as they grow, refine, and advance.

A stepping stone to Age Nationals, Junior Nationals and National Pathway

The Australian National Skills Championships serve as an entry point into national competition, supporting divers as they work toward Age National and Junior National Championships while also providing a valuable opportunity to qualify for the Diving Australia National Talent Squad. The event welcomes and supports all young divers, regardless of their long-term goals, by helping them develop the strong foundations needed to reach their fullest potential within the sport.

New Event Formats and Exciting Additions

The newly designed event includes both dryland and water-based skills, and divers can choose to participate in dryland only, water only, or in both components. In addition to the individual skills events, the Championships will now feature a Synchronised Event and a Team Event. Divers will be allocated into synchro pairings and team groups on the day of competition, creating a fun, inclusive, and engaging element to the Championships.
