Diving Australia welcomes historic government investment in high performance sport and participation

Diving Australia has today welcomed the Australian Government's landmark $513 million investment in sport, announced by the Australian Sports Commission (ASC), as a significant commitment to Australian athletes on the road to Los Angeles 2028 and Brisbane 2032.

The two-year funding package, which includes high performance funding for 68 sport programs and the continuation of direct athlete support (dAIS), will provide Diving Australia's elite athletes and coaches with much needed resources and stability needed to compete at the highest level on the world stage.

Diving Australia CEO Alex Newton said the announcement was an exciting moment for the Australian high performance sport system.

"This is a wonderful vote of confidence in our athletes and the work being done across the Australian sports system," Newton said.

"For Diving Australia, this funding means our top athletes can hopefully focus more on what they do best, training hard, competing at the elite level, and making Australians proud on the world stage, than spending long hours in between training sessions working other jobs to make ends meet.”

We are grateful to the Australian Government and the ASC for their ongoing commitment to high performance sport."

The Minister for Sport The Hon Anika Wells was joined by some of Australia’s top athletes today for the announcement at Sleeman Sports Complex including Olympic diver, Alysha Koloi.

The investment gives athletes, coaches and staff the opportunity to achieve their full potential by providing:
• high performance funding for 68 sport programs over the next two years
• continuation of direct athlete support (dAIS) to help with daily living and training expenses
• $102.8 million annual grant funding, free support services, and subsidised access to AIS facilities the ASC provides to national sporting organisations and high performance athletes.

Newton said the investment reflected a united approach to elite sport and a growing appreciation of the requirements needed to compete and win on the global stage.

"The Win Well Strategy is already delivering great results, and this investment will allow continued momentum through to LA28 and Brisbane 2032," Newton said.

"Diving Australia is proud to be part of a national sporting system that is committed to both excellence and athlete welfare.”

In addition to the high performance investment, Diving Australia has also received welcome participation funding to support the growth and delivery of nationally led programs across the country. The funding will help strengthen pathways into the sport, create more opportunities for participation at the community level, and support the States to deliver sporting schools to help drive community level growth.

Diving Australia looks forward to working closely with the ASC and the Australian Institute of Sport to maximise the opportunities this investment presents for our athletes, coaches, and the broader diving community.
