Diving Australia proudly congratulates Olympian, former Board Director and Chair Michael Andrew Murphy OAM on being awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the 2026 King's Birthday Honours for service to sport administration, particularly diving.

Murphy's contribution to Australian diving spans more than three decades as an athlete, administrator, selector, mentor and advocate for the sport.

Murphy represented the nation at the Barcelona 1992 and Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games. His fourth-place finish in the men's 3m springboard event in Barcelona. He enjoyed outstanding success at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, Canada, where he claimed gold medals in the 3m springboard and 10m platform events, along with a silver medal in the 1m springboard.

Following the conclusion of his competitive career, Murphy continued to shape the future of Australian diving through extensive service to the sport's governance and leadership. As Chair of Diving Australia from 2014 to 2022, he oversaw a period of sustained growth, strong international performances and organisational development, helping position the sport for future success on the road to Brisbane 2032.

During his tenure, Murphy was a passionate advocate for athletes and coaches while helping strengthen the sport's financial and strategic foundations. His leadership extended beyond diving through service on the Australian Olympic Committee Executive, contributing to the broader Olympic movement in Australia.

Away from sport, Murphy has built a distinguished business career. A graduate of Bond University with degrees in Commerce and Law, he was awarded a Harvard Menzies Scholarship and completed an MBA at Harvard Business School before progressing into senior leadership roles in investment and private equity.

Diving Australia recognises and celebrates Mike Murphy's extraordinary contribution to the sport. His achievements in the pool, in the boardroom and across the Australian sporting landscape have left a legacy that continues to benefit generations of divers.

On behalf of the Australian diving community, congratulations Mike on this richly deserved honour.
