Diving Australia has welcomed today’s confirmation of India as the host nation for the 2030 Commonwealth Games, following the announcement made at the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly in Glasgow.

With Amdavad (Ahmedabad) selected to stage the historic centenary edition of the Games, Diving Australia CEO Alex Newton said the decision delivers welcome certainty for athletes and sports across the Commonwealth.

“India’s appointment as host of the 2030 Games is an exciting moment for the entire Commonwealth Sport movement,” Newton said. “Amdavad is a dynamic city with a deep passion for major events, and we are confident it will deliver a memorable and inspiring Games for athletes, fans and the broader sporting community.”

Diving has long been one of Australia’s most successful Commonwealth Games sports, producing generations of medallists and world-class performers.

While Commonwealth Sport has announced an initial group of sports for 2030, a further selection process will determine which additional sports will be added to the final program. Newton said Diving Australia is eager to contribute to that process.

“Diving has been part of some of the most iconic moments in Commonwealth Games history, and we would very much welcome the opportunity to be involved again in 2030,” she said. “Our athletes continue to showcase exceptional skill, athleticism and courage on the world stage, and we believe diving adds enormous value to a multi-sport Games environment.”

“Our community is incredibly proud of its record at past Commonwealth Games, and the chance to compete in Amdavad would be a powerful motivator for our next generation of athletes. We look forward to engaging constructively in the upcoming discussions regarding the sport programme.”

Newton also highlighted the importance of today’s announcement for athletes and their long-term preparation pathways.

“Confirming a host city provides direction, confidence and inspiration for athletes who aspire to represent their nation at one of the most significant events in international sport,” she said. “As Australian diving continues to build toward LA28 and Brisbane 2032, the 2030 Commonwealth Games would play a pivotal role in developing our high-performance talent and sustaining our global competitiveness.”

Diving Australia looks forward to supporting Commonwealth Sport and Commonwealth Games Australia as the full sport program for the 2030 Games is finalised in 2026.
