FINA World Junior Diving Championships 2021 Update

Published Fri 05 Nov 2021

Due to the ongoing global pandemic, and logistic and financial hurdles, Diving Australia has made the difficult decision to not send an Australian team to compete at the FINA World Junior Diving Championships 2021 scheduled for December 2-9, 2021, in Kyiv Ukraine.

Whilst restrictions do appear to be easing, and quarantine staring to become less onerous, this decision was driven by likely high (and uncertain) travel costs and quarantine challenges for some states, an uncertainty/lack of available flights, and ongoing domestic and international border challenges/closures. These challenges are exacerbated by high risks associated with uncertainty of international travel at the current time for a team of junior athletes.

The decision made by the Diving Australia Board comes off the back of a period of consultation with divers, diving families, and key stakeholders who have been engaged in an ongoing dialogue. Diving Australia empathises with these divers who will no longer have the opportunity to represent their country in Ukraine this December.

Diving Australia leadership are now looking at other opportunities for the affected cohort of athletes in early 2022. Information regarding these opportunities will be communicated in the coming weeks.

Diving Australia would like to wish the organising committee and participating athletes the very best of luck for a safe and successful the FINA World Junior Diving Championships 2021.
