Meet the Team - Anabelle Smith

Anabelle Smith is no stranger to Olympic success having secured a bronze medal at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games alongside synchro partner Maddison Keeney in the Women’s 3-Metre Synchro event. Smith’s performance at the Rio Games completed her set of medals from every major international diving competition including the FINA World Championships, Commonwealth Games, and FINA Diving World Cup.

Meet the Team - Shixin Li

Shixin Li has had one goal in diving, to compete at the Olympic Games. He was so confident in his ability that the Men’s 3-Metre Springboard diver had the Olympic Rings tattooed on his arm years prior. True to form, Li secured his position on the 2020 Australian Olympic Team and made his dream a reality at the 2021 Australian Open Championships incorporating Nomination Trials.

Meet the Team - Melissa Wu

Melissa Wu jumped onto the world stage with her silver medal winning performance as a 13-year-old at the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games. Since then, Wu has secured medals at the Olympic Games, FINA World Championships, Commonwealth Games, and FINA Diving World Cup. Now, Wu will dive into the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games with a wealth of experience and global esteem as one of the worlds premier Platform divers.

Sam Fricker started diving in 2012 to impress a girl he had a crush on at the time. Sadly, the relationship didn’t work out, but in the process Fricker fell in love with something else, the sport of diving. Nine years later that love led to Fricker securing his position on the 2020 Australian Olympic Team.

Meet the Team - Esther Qin

Esther Qin’s earliest Olympic memory was watching Chinese diver Tian Liang compete at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. At the time Qin vowed that the sport was too scary, and she would never become a diver. Little did she know, 21 years later she would be qualifying for her second Olympic Games in the very same pool that Liang secured his first Olympic gold.

Coaching Staff for Tokyo 2020

Diving Australia is pleased to announce a four-member coaching staff for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Andy Banks (Co-National Coach, Adelaide), Adrian Hinchliffe (National Coach, Brisbane), Richard Schavone (Co-National Coach, Adelaide), and Chava Sobrino (National Coach, Sydney) will coach the seven strong diving team in Tokyo.

Meet the Team - Nikita Hains

In 2012, an 11-year-old Nikita Hains stayed up in the middle of the night to watch the gymnastics events at the London Olympic Games. While watching the event, she picked up her pen and wrote in her diary that she was going to make the Olympic Games. Nine years and countless hours of hard work later, she made that promise a reality.

ACAS Program Application Period Opens

For the third year running, Diving Australia is pleased to open applications for the Athlete Committee Athlete Support Program. Since its inception in 2019, the Program has provided considerable financial support for current and former elite Australian divers. The 2021 edition of the Program is open to any athletes that has held a SIS/SAS or AIS Diving Scholarship at any time.

2021 Australian Elite Junior Championships Postponed

Diving Australia in consultation with State Diving Associations has today made the decision to postpone the 2021 Australian Elite Junior Championships. The Championships originally scheduled to begin on July 5, will now be held from September 27 through October 2, 2021 (tbc). Melbourne will remain the host city for the Championships.

Australian Olympic Team Announcement

The Australian Olympic Committee has named seven divers to the Australian Olympic Team for Tokyo in Sydney today. Melissa Wu becomes just the third Australia diver to represent Australia at four Olympics, with Olympic bronze medallist Anabelle Smith named to her third Games, Rio Olympian Esther Qin making her second Olympic team, and Nikita Hains, Cassiel Rousseau, Sam Fricker and Shixin Li all making their Olympic debut.

2021 Australian Open Championships - Recap

The 2021 Australian Open Championships incorporating Nomination Trials wrapped up in Sydney last Friday following four days of world class diving. Six new Australian Open Champions were crowned at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre during the event which once again saw a handful of athletes allowed to compete virtually through video submission.
