KEENEY & ROUSSEAU SPRINGBOARD TO SILVER

Published Fri 01 Aug 2025

In one of the closest finals the diving events at the 2025 World Aquatics Championships have seen thus far, Cassiel Rousseau and Maddison Keeney brought home the silver medal in the Mixed 3-metre Springboard Synchro - less than one point behind gold medallists, Italy.

With the pressure on and their highest ranked rivals, Italy (308.13) hitting the boards just prior to them, Keeney and Rousseau held their nerves to perform their highest scoring dive of the five rounds to finish with 307.26 points and secure the silver medal.

The podium result gives Keeney her second medal of the 2025 Championships after winning gold in the 1m springboard event on Saturday evening. She will now devote her attention to her 2024 Paris Olympics silver medal winning event, the women's 3-metre Springboard this weekend.

Rousseau, most renowned for his prowess on the 10-metre platform where he took home the World Champion title in 2023, will also now focus on his own individual platform event in the coming days.

"Given the training that I have had, I definitely did not expect it [silver]. I guess I did expect it in another way given how good Maddi is and how she carries the team, but I felt like I had to step up in a way.

"I like to watch the comp and I saw them [Italy] beat China with the inward dive they did, but I never really feel pressure. They deserved it, they dove better than us and I am never going to try something or go harder to beat someone. It feels really good now and I'm really happy."

Looking ahead to his own individual competition: "I am feeling good and I am ready to go."
