Senior Team head overseas to Canada Cup and American Cup
Published Tue 03 Jun 2025
Straight off the back of a successful Australian Open Championships in Sydney, eleven of Australia’s best senior divers are on their way to Canada and the USA to test themselves against their international competitors.
The first event, the Canada Cup in Gatineau, will feature 70 of the world’s top divers and all eight Olympic events - Women’s and Men’s 3m Springboard, 10m Platform, 3m Springboard Synchro, and 10m Platform Synchro – as well as the action-packed mixed team event.
Competitors from ten nations will join Australia in the hunt for gold from host nation Canada to Columbia, Cuba, the Czech Republic, the Dominican Republic, Japan, the Republic of South Korea, Sri Lanka, and the USA.
Leading the team, Diving Australia incoming Head Coach and Program Director, Ady Hinchliffe said the trip would provide valuable experience for the group against formidable international competition.
“Both Canada and America are very strong in diving and both events, the Canada Cup and American Cup, are accredited World Aquatics meets so they will attract a high level of competition for our divers.”
The Canada Cup travelling group range from the experienced with Olympian and Commonwealth Games Medallist Brittany O’Brien through to three divers making their senior international debuts, 2025 World Junior Platform Champion Maggie Grey and 2022 Junior World Medallist (3m synchro) Lucy Dovison and 2022 Junior World Medallist (10m Platform) Sofia Knight.
The American Cup group also includes Paris Olympian Ellie Cole and Commonwealth Games athlete and recent National Champion in 3-metre springboard, Georgia Sheehan.
“For our more experienced divers this trip, which is really at the start of our new Olympic cycle campaign for LA28, they will be looking to make finals, and we always aim for medals, while our next generation divers are focused on gaining valuable international experience as we look ahead to 2028 and 2032.”
Along with individual events, the team consists of a full contingent for the synchro events.
“There are more opportunities for us to impact at an Olympic Games in synchro, so we have a very clear strategy to build our team over this next Olympic cycle leading into LA28 so that by Brisbane 2032 we feature across all events,” Hinchliffe said.
