WORLD AND COMMONWEALTH CHAMPIONS TRIUMPH ON THE GOLD COAST

A current world champion and a Commonwealth Games gold medallist have been among the victors on the first day of finals in cold and windy conditions at the FINA Diving Grand Prix on the Gold Coast on Saturday. Australia, China, Malaysia and Great Britain shared the gold medals, with the experienced Melissa Wu teaming up with Adelaideâ€™s Taneka Kovchenko to beat a small field in the womenâ€™s platform synchro.

ANOTHER STRONG PERFORMANCE FROM KEENEY AND SMITH ON WORLD STAGE

Australiaâ€™s Maddison Keeney has finished fifth and Anabelle Smith 11th in the 3-metre final at the World Aquatics Championships in Budapest, Hungary. Keeney, who broke through to win her first major international competition when she took gold in the 1-metre earlier in the week, finished the 3-metre with 335.50 points, with Chinese Olympic gold medallist, Shi Tingmao, taking first place with 383.50.

WU PUTS IN SOLID PERFORMANCE IN PLATFORM FINAL

Melissa Wu has bounced back from a shaky semi-final to finish fifth in the womenâ€™s platform final at the World Aquatics Championships in Budapest. 25-year-old Wu, competing in her fifth World Championships, only just scraped into the final after finishing 11th in Tuesdayâ€™s semi-final, but showed her class with a strong finals performance in a field full of Olympic medallists and World champions.

The three-time Olympian was at her brilliant best for the preliminary round, qualifying second behind Olympic gold medallist Qian Ren of China, with Chinese Olympic silver medallist Yajie Si third.

FIFTH FOR AUSTRALIA IN WOMENâ€™S PLATFORM SYNCHRO

Three-time Olympian Melissa Wu and South Australiaâ€™s Taneka Kovchenko have finished fifth in the womenâ€™s platform synchro final at the FINA World Championships in Budapest. The Australians dived consistently throughout the final, reaching as high as equal fourth after their second dive and dropping to seventh after the third dive, before climbing back to fifth.

KEENEY BREAKS THROUGH FOR BIGGEST WIN OF DIVING CAREER

Australiaâ€™s Maddison Keeney has broken through for the biggest win of her international diving career, winning 1-metre springboard gold at the 2017 World Championships in Budapest overnight. An emotional Keeney fought back tears as she emerged from the pool after her final dive, knowing she had done enough to secure her first ever major gold medal.

Australian diver Maddison Keeney has qualified for todayâ€™s World Championships final of the 1-metre springboard in Budapest in the gold medal position. 21-year-old Keeney finished her five dives in Fridayâ€™s preliminary round with a total of 283.80, more than five points clear of Chinaâ€™s Yiwen Chen with Malaysiaâ€™s Jun Hoong Cheong qualifying third.

Wu Sets Herself New Challenge at Fifth Diving World Championships

Despite being Australiaâ€™s most experienced diver, Melissa Wu will attempt something she has never tried at an international competition in Budapest over the next week. For the first time ever Wu will compete in four events at a competition, an enormous workload but one which the 25-year-old veteran of three Olympic Games is looking forward to.
